Director: Pelham Lyles Admission: Free Mission: The mission of Fairfield County Museum is four-fold: to stimulate interest in the role of Fairfield County in the development of South Carolina and the nation, the preserve the history of the county through the collection of significant artifacts and interpretations of the personal stories of its citizens, to identitfy and document historic properties and sites within the county and to educate citizens and visitors about the heritage of Fairfield County. Everything moved to the Fairfield County Museum and is available for research Tuesdays - Fridays, 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays, 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. It is best to call or e-mail prior to your visit, as there is not a regular staff of volunteers to assist. The collection includes wills (1784 to 1974), deeds (1784 to 1942), probate records (1784 to 1869), family files, cemetery records, Fairfield county maps (1820, 1873, 1876 and 1908), some church records, war records, etc. |
