Summer Youth Employment Program.‐ SC Vocational Rehabilitation is looking for companies willing to hire students as part of their summer youth program. Each student can work up to 240 hours per job ( not business) and a maximum of 40 hours per week. For instance, if a student works 240 hours as a dishwasher at a restaurant then they could do maximum of 40 hours per week. For instance, if a student works 240 hours as a dishwasher at a restaurant then they could do another 240 hours as a food prep worker. It just has to be different job tasks. It may not even be a position that even exists.

Let’s say a business does not have a greeter at the door but thinks that it may enhance their customers experience. They could use this student to do this. The goal is not for the student to get hired per se. If the company likes them and wants to hire them then that is fantastic ( and we can do some other incentives for that FYI) but that is not the expectation. The goal is for the student to gain work experience. Vocational Rehabilitation will pay 100 percent of the salary.

The student will be covered under the state’s Worker’s Compensation policy. Students are higher functioning and will not require any more intensive supervision than any youth employee. If a student is not performing to work expectations, then that student will be relieved of their job duties. This is a work experience program. If the company has an issue with a student they are not locked in to anything. Paperwork is very minimal.
